Well, as people who use the very popular blog-hosting siteTumblr are finding out this morning, that the day of cyber reckoning may have dawned.
A report today by Jim Edwards in Business Insider says that a massive security flaw at Tumblr requires everyone using the service’s app on iPhone and iPad to change their password and download an update of the social blogging update in order to cure that flaw.
As Edwards writes, the news came in a very brief blog post by Tumblr that said passwords could be “sniffed in transit on certain versions of the app”.
However, the company did not explain the nature of the problem or the extent of the breach, saying only that “we take your security very seriously and are tremendously sorry for this lapse and inconvenience.”
The microblogging site, which claims to have more than 300 million monthly unique visitors, wasacquired by Yahoo last month for $1.1 billion.
